Northland Services
In a best of breed situation at Northland Services, OCG is building the services that connect Northland’s packages and custom applications into a fully integrated environment. Using Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) principles and patterns, the integrated framework is composed of a collection of technologies and services which enable integration of systems and applications across the business. Services include use of data synchronization tools to maintain cross-platform database integrity, and specialized interface processes that transform data from legacy systems and import it into the organization’s Microsoft Dynamics Accounting System. OCG has also implemented the organization’s Data Warehouse system, and the extract-transform-load services to maintain it from a variety of disparate source systems.
OCG designed and implemented a sophisticated ocean freight pricing and publication application, which integrates with a 3rd party shipment and invoicing management tool. The pricing components involve complex algorithms for identifying qualifying rate structures and choosing the most efficient pricing based on a wide variety of configuration and data-driven factors, such as the commodity to be shipped, origin/destination, and cargo weight and dimension details. The publication components support dynamic online publication of ocean freight rates to replace a legacy process of maintaining and publishing hard-copies of the information.
OCG has also developed the technical architecture for Northland Services’ extranet and conducted development/implementation of a custom Cargo Tracking service for customers. Additional services included the installation of a SharePoint intranet service, implementation of an equipment control application and integration with the legacy freight billing system, and an interface between Great Plains A/R and the freight billing system.
OCG conducted a complete audit of Northland Services’ IT department, including personnel, network, operations, applications, security and business processes. We categorized and prioritized the resulting recommendations and presented them to the senior management team for action. OCG also created a Disaster Recovery Plan based on a combination of a warm site and electronic vaulting.

DHL
OCG provided planning, requirements and realization
consulting for DHL’s SAP implementation to replace the US Billing system.
Services included cost/benefit analysis, facilitation, solution architecture and
creation of training materials and user guides.

Airborne Express
Prior to the acquisition of Airborne by DHL, Airborne
Express hired OCG to create a comprehensive customer data architecture –
modeling customer and revenue system data from order to cash.
OCG then defined a target roadmap for the migration of customer, and
revenue systems from the Mainframe COBOL/IMS to a .NET/DB2 environment.
Our consultants were responsible for presentations to the CEO, Senior
VPs, CIO and ITS directors and managers.

Weyerhaeuser
Marine
Transportation & Export Documentation:
Weyerhaeuser Company is the largest volume exporter in the US.
In the 1990s, OCG designed and developed Marine Transportation booking
systems for the Pulp Business and Recycling Business, and fully automated the
Export Documentation process – allowing Weyerhaeuser to eliminate the use of
their Freight Forwarder. OCG
integrated ocean carriers directly with Weyerhaeuser. This allowed the shipper
to issue bills of lading directly from their sales system, receive electronic
due bills and process freight payment as well as all other export documents.
Domestic Freight
Payment for Truck & Rail Shipping: This project centralized and automated
the rating and payment of truck and rail carrier invoices for facilities
throughout the United States and Canada. The application was tightly integrated
with the global sales system. It receives electronic shipment notices from the
manufacturing sites, sends electronic bills of lading to the railroad, then
rates and forwards authorization for payment for the freight bill.
